Methodological Consideration of Thyroid Stimulation Test

Abstract
The effect of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) on the release of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). prolactin (PRL) and growth hormone (GH) were investigated in 10 healthy men and 10 healthy women with normal thyroid functions. Baseline TSH,
PRL
GH.
Thyroxine (T4). Triiodothyronine (T3) uptake and cortisol level were measured before and 15, 30, 60, 90 minutes after injection of 500¥ìg of TRH. ¡âmax T4, ¡âmax FTl and ¡âmax PRL were significantly different petween men and women (p<0.05),
p<-0.01,
p<0.001). The TSH peak occured about 30 minutes after injection of TRH in both sexes, whereas PRL peak occurred at 15 minutes after injection. As compared with TSH and PRL response. GH response showed irreqular peak pattern. As result, TSH
response
after injection of TRH showed no significant difference between men and women. In both sexes, the 30-min value of TSH and 15-min value of PRL are adequate measure of TSH and PRL secretory response to TPH.
